Community care.
here’s the thing,
this was going to be a post about self care
*cringe*
BUT
shouting self care without giving people space for self care doesnt mean a damn thing ok
i’m working on focusing more on community care
community care means showing up for people and that, is essential.
community care is about TOGETHERNESS, something that I personally could use a lot more of.
community care is about showing up for one another.
it’s one thing to say “here, do a face mask, it’s self-care!” (self care)
and it’s another thing to say “here, YOU go do a face mask, I’ll watch your kids” (community care)
community care, i’m learning (and relearning) is both macro AND mirco
because one of the biggest forms of self care (which is SO DAMN HARD) is asking for help
and help means reaching out to your community
so, micro and macro community care here we go
micro examples of community care can look like:
✨ offering to babysit for a friend
✨ asking someone what kind of support they need during a difficult time
✨ cooking a meal for someone you know, just because
✨ creating a self-care kit for a friend, neighbor, or family member
✨ remembering the name of the person who served you or swiped your groceries
macro examples of community care can look like:
✨voting
✨ speaking up against injustices
✨ donating
✨ volunteering
✨ addressing conflict when it arises in the workplace
✨ creating or joining a support group
these are just examples
there are a gazzillion ways that we can care for ourselves
and there a gazzillion ways we can learn to care for others better
self care is the bridge to community care, and community care is the bridge to community healing
and i’m learning, that as we work to heal each other, we can better heal ourselves.
