Week 41: High Altitude Running

This week we spent the weekend in Colorado which meant my workouts were at the 6000 feet instead of sea level.

This added another element to my running that I thought it would be fun to reflect on for week 41 of #fitforsevens.

#fitforsevens is my 2019 challenge to try a different kind of fitness each week of the year!

Why is running at altitude so different?

Running at high altitudes ⬇️ the amount of oxygen getting to the muscles and there’s an ⬆️ risk of dehydration.

“At 6000 feet above sea level, you exhale and perspire twice as much moisture as you do at sea level.” – From High Altitude Life

Oxygen levels at altitude ⬇️ the farther you go up, making it harder to breathe.
