Week 49: Open Water Swimming
Week 49 of #fitforsevens was open water swimming. We were visiting Hawaii and I took advantage of the beautiful beaches to get some open water swim practice in!
Since the Ironman that I am training for (Arizona) will have open water swimming, I knew that this practice would be beneficial for my training. I had never truly tried to swim athletically in an open body of water before and it was a bit unnerving (even though I’m generally pretty comfortable in the ocean).
The water was not too cold, thankfully. The biggest challenge came from not being able to relax enough to get good breaths in. This is something that I am still working on in the pool.
I’m glad that I got to experience open water swimming only 4 weeks in to my triathlon training. Katie and I plan to swim a lot in lake this spring and summer as a part of our training routine.
What I’ve loved about #fitforsevens is the chance that it has given me to try so many different things - even things that scare me.
